Marlin 336SC .35 Rem – New to me!!

Pickup a Marlin 336SC .35 Rem. yesterday at an estate sale. The serial Number of GXXX, that indicates that Marlin manufactured the rifle in 1950. The rifle looks like it could have just come out if the box. The bluing is perfect, and the wood is in great shape except for the forearm that had something impact against it, left a couple of small dents and the wood rough from the strength of the impact. I might be able to lift out the small dent with and iron and wet towel.

The Marlin 336SC is a sporting carbine that has a 20″ barrel with a 3/4 length magazine tube. The 1950 model has Ballard rifling which Marlin changed to Microgroove rifling in 1956 to speed up the manufacturing process and reduce costs.  Marlin introduced the .35 Remington in the 336 in 1950, so this rifle was one of the first in .35 Rem.  The Lyman 56 micrometer sight and sling swivels are later installs as they were not a factory options. If it wasn’t for these additions and the forearm, this would have been a great mint collectors edition. The rifle belonged to a gentleman that had been a POW in World War II, he started collecting weapons when he got back to the US, and has many Military style arms, I just got to see a small part of the lower end of the collection that the dealer had. The dealer had a very beautiful Savage M-99EG feather weight take-down in 22 Savage High Power, wish I would have had the cash for it.

The .35 Remington is the only remaining cartridge from Remington’s lineup of medium power rimless cartridges still in commercial production. Introduced in 1906, it was originally chambered for the Remington Model 8  a semi-automatic rifle in 1908. The standard factory cartridge for the lever-action rifles is a 200gr soft point bullet with a velocity of a little over 2000 fps and a moderate pressure level of 33,500 CUP as set by SAAMI,

Hornady also makes the .35 Remington in their LEVERevolution loads with a flexible rubber spitzer bullet which are safe to use in lever-action or pump guns with tubular magazines.

Hand-loads from 158gr pistol bullets for plinking and small game to 220gr sierra bullets for black-bear and elk are listed, this round in good for hunting at ranges under 200 yards.

My not so new rifle.
